Cambridge Health Alliance, Cambridge, Somerville, Everett, Massachusetts.
Our team undertook the design, development of working documents, and management of the installation of three CT scan sites at Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) locations: Cambridge Hospital, Somerville Hospital, and Whidden Memorial Hospital. This project aimed to enhance diagnostic capabilities across the three facilities, providing state-of-the-art imaging technology to better serve patients’ needs. Each site presented unique challenges, requiring tailored solutions to ensure seamless integration of the new equipment into the existing hospital infrastructure.
At Whidden Memorial Hospital, the project involved a more substantial renovation and installation, necessitating extensive structural reinforcement of the existing floor slab to support the weight and operational demands of the new CT scanner. The historic nature of the masonry building added an extra layer of complexity, particularly with the need for a through-wall installation of the scanner bore. This required careful planning and execution to preserve the architectural integrity of the building while accommodating the technical specifications of the advanced imaging equipment. Our team developed detailed plans and coordinated with the Department of Public Health (DPH) to ensure all regulatory requirements were met, facilitating a smooth approval process and timely completion of the project. The successful implementation at Whidden Memorial, along with the other two CHA sites, significantly enhanced the diagnostic services available to the community, demonstrating our capability to manage complex healthcare infrastructure projects in challenging environments.
